Wood transport. In off-road terrain Josef Jaša relies on the Arocs 3351

The wood specialist.

It was the wood business that brought Josef Jaša to the transport industry. Today 12 trucks drive in his fleet – most of them from Mercedes-Benz.

The track along the edge of the forest is not easy to drive on – but it is no problem for the robust black Arocs 3351 belonging to Josef Jaša’s wood company. After about one hundred metres the truck arrives at an extensive meadow where logs are stored before being removed for further processing. The three-axle vehicle with a powerful hydraulic gripper and a special trailer has been equipped precisely for this purpose. The experienced driver loads up several cubic metres of wood literally in a few minutes.

Once the logs have been loaded onto the trailer, the Arocs quickly returns to the paved forest road. Another Arocs is waiting there. The wood is now loaded on to this vehicle for another journey to the processing site. “We don't use the truck with its special hydraulic arm for long distances, only for hard work in off-road terrain,” Josef Jaša tells us.

The entrepreneur from Tachov in the Czech Republic has always worked with wood. “Long before I could even imagine having my own wood company, I worked for an international company that processed wood.

A few years later, I thought to myself that I could use my experience there to run my own business. Everything started from there in 2012,” Jaša reports.

However, he needed a suitable truck for this job. Initially the company commissioned other haulage companies to transport the wood. After a certain length of time Jaša was able to found his own fleet. “Really it was just chance. An acquaintance of mine was selling off his transport company and it occurred to me that I could buy his vehicles from him. That way, I was no longer dependent on other haulage companies,” Josef Jaša continues.

“I believe Mercedes-Benz is the best on the market. That's why I am happy that our drivers can work with this brand of vehicle.”

As is often the case, the company’s beginnings were not so easy – and it only developed slowly. “At first I worked all on my own, but later another colleague joined me. By 2015 I had seven employees and today we have exactly 30 people. Currently our fleet comprises twelve trucks,” Jaša says, full of satisfaction.

Since 2015, not having vehicles bearing the three-pointed star would be unimaginable and today they dominate the fleet. Josef Jaša: “I believe Mercedes-Benz is the best on the market. That is why I am happy our drivers can work with this brand of vehicle. We also use the services provided by Fleetboard. The system helps us to assess the drivers and better keep an eye on driving efficiency as a whole. There is no other way in an environment like the haulage market that is so dominated by competition.”
