Pension? As if! Kaspar Almer (83) still on the road in his SK 1726 every day

Old hand.

When his contemporaries were already thinking about retirement back in 1990, Kaspar Almer bought an SK 1726. Since then, he’s driven around one million kilometres for the Regensburg-based family-owned company Ludwig Almer – and is still driving today.

Mileage: just a few more kilometres until he hits the million mark.

The series.

A change in the law that permitted a total weight of 17 tonnes for two-axle vehicles lead to the introduction of the Schwere Klasse (SK (heavy class)).

This is indicated by the number 17, the smallest number in the classification.

The capacity of the V8 naturally aspirated engine in the series OM 442 was increased from 14.6 to 15.1 litres.

The vehicle.

The entrance is pretty narrow. As is the street. Kaspar Almer vigorously turns the steering wheel. His gaze quickly shifts from the left to the right mirror and back again. Slowly and expertly, Kaspar manoeuvres his skip loader backwards through the gate and wall of the house and onto the courtyard. Daily routine for drivers all over the world. The difference: Kaspar has been doing this for over 60 years.
